The retail industry is one of the fastest-growing industries in India. The retail industry contributes significantly to the overall growth of the Indian economy. The growth of the retail industry is highly dependent upon sales. For higher sales in retail, we need to provide better customer satisfaction at the point of purchase. Customers buy the products depending upon the variety of products, volume, and size of products stored in the retail store. The retail store management needs to identify associations between frequently purchased products. To achieve this, there is a need of studying changing trends of customer buying habits, better placement of products in the retail store, offering a jumbo discount or cross-sales of products to offer, segmentation of products based on buying patterns, market testing, and new product promotions. Hence there is a need to study buying pattern of the customer at the point of purchase at the retail shop by using market basket analysis. In such a situation, there is a need to provide a better customer shopping experience by providing a better store layout, and offering discounts for groups of products purchased together so as to achieve an increase in sales with better customer satisfaction to the end customers in a retail store. This leads to the research on the topic: “Development of Market Basket Analysis Strategy for Retail Industry - A Study”.... The primary objective of the research is to study customer buying behavior, their buying patterns, and the association between various groups of products purchased collectively in a retail store. It initially presents the study of identifying associations and buying patterns between various groups of products that customer makes while purchasing any product from a retail store. Buying patterns are mainly based on customer behaviors during shopping at different occasions in the retail store such as Weekdays Vs Weekend buying behaviors, Month Begin Vs Month End buying patterns, Sales during Festival Season, Sales during different Climate/ Seasons. Further on, research studies the various Combo Offer, Discounts on Products, Product Market Tests, and New Product Launching Strategies in a Retail Store. Based on the study on customer buying behavior, associations between groups of products with the customers, and various discount offers in a retail store, the research study provided the Effective Store Layout and Effective Product Placement in the organized Retail Store Further on, the research work proposes an Algorithm of a Dynamic Data Mining Process for Market Basket Analysis with a Better Time Complexity and Better Accuracy over the Existing Static Data Mining Process. This helps the retailer with Better Inventory Management, Supply Chain Management (SCM), and Customer Relationship Management (CRM). Read More
